How we teach

Learn to surf with local coaches

Every surf lesson at PaddleOut is run by coaches from Tamraght. They know which beach works on which tide, so each morning they pick the spot that suits the swell and your level, then drive you there.

Groups stay small, so your coach sees your waves and tells you what to change on the next one. On longer stays we film your sessions and go through the footage together in the evening.

  • Daily lesson, about 10:00 to 12:30
  • Surfboard, wetsuit and rash vest included
  • Transport to the beach and lunch by the sea
  • Video feedback on your sessions

First waves

Never surfed before

You start on the sand: how to carry the board, paddle and pop up. Then you catch whitewater waves on a gentle beach with a coach next to you. Most first-timers stand up on day one or two.

Improver

Standing up, want green waves

We move you from whitewater to unbroken waves: paddling out through the break, picking a wave, angling left or right and reading sets.

Intermediate

Riding green waves already

Coaches take you to the reef and point breaks up the coast, film your session and go through the footage with you so you can fix one thing at a time.

Where we surf

Surf spots around Tamraght

Tamraght sits in the middle of a coast with waves for every level. Beginners learn on the sandy beach breaks around the village and towards Aourir, where the waves break slowly and the water is shallow enough to stand.

Once you ride green waves, the coaches take you up the coast towards Taghazout, home to some of Morocco's best-known point breaks. On the 7-day and 8-day packages you also get a day trip to Imsouane and its long right-hand wave.

FAQ

Surf lessons, answered

Do I need any surf experience?

No. Most of our guests are beginners. Lessons start on the beach with the basics and your coach stays with you in the water.

How long is a surf lesson?

The morning session runs from about 10:00 to 12:30: warm-up, a short theory talk, then coaching in the water. Lunch is on the beach afterwards.

Where are the lessons?

Coaches choose the beach each morning from the swell, tide and your level. Beginners usually surf the sandy beach breaks around Tamraght; improvers and intermediates go to the reef and point breaks towards Taghazout.

Is equipment included?

Yes. Surfboard, wetsuit and rash vest are included in every package, and so is the transport to the beach.

How big are the groups?

Small. We keep a low number of surfers per coach so you get feedback on every wave, not once a session.

Can I book lessons without staying at the surf house?

Our lessons come with a package stay. Message us on WhatsApp with your dates and we will tell you what is possible.

When is the best time for surf lessons in Tamraght?

All year. Autumn to spring brings the most swell; summer has smaller, friendlier waves that suit first-timers well.
