Pack light for a surf camp in Morocco: swimwear, sun protection, warm layers for the evenings and a few modest clothes for the village. Boards and wetsuits are usually provided, so you do not need to bring surf gear unless you want your own. Below is the full checklist our guests use, with what changes by season.
Surf gear
At PaddleOut a surfboard, wetsuit and rash vest are included in every package, so most guests bring no surf equipment at all. If you surf already and love your own board, bring it in a padded bag.
- Two swimsuits or boardshorts, so one can dry
- A rash vest or surf top if you prefer your own
- Your own wetsuit only if you are particular about fit
- Earplugs if you are prone to ear problems
Sun protection
The sun is strong on the Atlantic coast all year, and you spend hours on the water where it reflects back at you.
- Water-resistant sunscreen, SPF 50 for your face
- A zinc stick for nose and cheeks
- Sunglasses and a cap for the beach
- Lip balm with SPF
- After-sun or aloe vera
Clothes
Days are warm for most of the year, but evenings on the rooftop can be cool, especially from November to March. Tamraght is a local village, so cover shoulders and knees when you walk around the souk or go into town. Beachwear is fine on the beach.
- T-shirts and shorts for the day
- A hoodie or fleece and long trousers for the evenings
- A light rain jacket in winter
- Something loose that covers shoulders and knees for the village
- Flip-flops and a pair of trainers
- Comfortable clothes for yoga
Water temperature and wetsuits
The ocean around Tamraght is cooler than many people expect. It is around 17°C in late winter and reaches about 21 to 22°C at the end of summer. A full wetsuit is used most of the year, and we provide one in the right thickness for the season. Read more in our guide to the best time to surf in Morocco.
Toiletries and health
- Your usual toiletries in travel sizes
- A quick-dry towel for the beach
- Plasters and a small first-aid kit for reef cuts
- Any medication you take, with a copy of the prescription
- Rehydration sachets, useful after long sessions in the sun
Money, phone and documents
- Passport, valid for the length of your stay
- Some cash in dirhams for the souk, cafés and taxis; cards are not accepted everywhere
- A type C or E plug adapter (Morocco uses 220V, European two-pin sockets)
- A local SIM or an eSIM for mobile data
- Travel insurance that covers surfing
What you can leave at home
- A surfboard and wetsuit, unless you want your own
- A hair dryer and lots of shoes
- Bedding and towels for the house, which we provide
- Too many clothes: you will live in swimwear and a hoodie
